The Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, in close collaboration with the Luxembourg Embassy in London, successfully organised a trade mission to Scotland from 14th to 17th May.
Representatives from Luxembourg and Scotland came together to explore avenues for collaboration and exchange ideas, forging new connections and partnerships in the areas of CleanTech, Circular Economy, Sustainable Finance, and Clean Energy among others.
On 15th May the Luxembourg delegation visited the All Energy Exhibition and Conference, the UK's largest renewable and low-carbon energy event. The group engaged with institutional partners at the Team Scotland stand, gaining insights into the support structures available for foreign companies in Scotland and discussing Scotland’s commitment to a renewable transition in the energy sector. SolarCleano, a Luxembourg company exhibiting at All Energy presented their innovative robotic solar panel cleaning solutions to the delegation.
Next, during a guided tour of the state-of-the-art Barclays Campus in Glasgow the sustainable architectural design and energy-efficient features of the campus were presented to the delegation. This was followed by an animated exchange with Scottish entrepreneurs and startups pioneering in green technologies and sustainable solutions at their Eagle Lab, Barclays’ incubator in Glasgow.
On 16th May the delegation visited the University of Edinburgh with a presentation of the important research that is done at the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute followed by a Lunch and Learn session at the Centre for Business, Climate Change, and Sustainability (B-CCaS) of the University of Edinburgh’s Business School with professors pioneering in the fields such as Green Finance and Circular Economy.
In the afternoon, the delegation had an insightful visit to Diageo’s Leven global supply production facility, focusing on the company’s sustainability practices and net-zero initiatives. Diageo, a global leader in the spirits industry, provided the delegation with first-hand insights into their production methods during a visit to their Leven facility.
On the evening of 16th May, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and H.E. Ambassador Georges Friden invited guests to an official reception at the Merchant’s Hall, home to Luxembourg’s Honorary Consulate in Edinburgh. The event concluded the mission with a commitment to deepening the connections and partnerships created. The mission to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Leven laid the groundwork for a closer partnership between Luxembourg and Scotland.
