The Chamber of Commerce and HEC Liège are joining forces and announcing the establishment of a strategic partnership in order to enrich the range of higher education courses available to Luxembourg companies and their employees. This partnership will result in the creation of an international MBA from the start of the 2022 academic year and an expanded range of university certificates from 2023.

One of the key missions of the Chamber of Commerce is to support entrepreneurs and Luxembourg companies in developing the skills of their managers and employees. The institution is involved in the entire value chain of professional training, from initial professional training to the provision of certification and diplomas in continuing education, based on the principle of lifelong learning.

The Executive Education department of HEC Liège, the management school of the University of Liège, offers training in all areas of business management. These courses are aimed at top managers, middle managers, entrepreneurs, freelancers or employees who want to develop their skills or at companies that want to develop the skills of their employees in the context of their professional activities.

The two institutions have been working together for many years on specific training programmes. This new partnership has three main focuses.

1. Meeting current and future needs in the field of upskilling and reskilling

In addition to their specific skills and know-how, self-employed people, entrepreneurs, employees or managers constantly need to expand their field of competence, so that they can not only develop in their current function, but also move on to new horizons. A solid and broadened skill base will be useful to succeed in ever-changing environments, with the dual focus on ecological and digital transition. The rigorous and scientific approach proposed by HEC Liège's executive education department enables us to enrich our training courses in this sense.

"Through this partnership, the Chamber of Commerce and the House of Training will be able to expand their continuing professional education offer with concrete solutions, at university level, to better accompany companies on the path to continuous, dynamic and sustainable development. Training is one of the keys to the future success of companies", explains Carlo Thelen, Director General of the Chamber of Commerce.

2. Providing state-of-the-art higher education in the fields of business management

The partnership will also offer new training programmes and university certificates that will help companies to develop the skills of their employees, taking into account the real needs of the participants.

According to Wilfried Niessen, Director General & Dean HEC Liège Management School: "Academic researchers from a business school such as HEC Liège are involved in many field projects. They have a cross-sectional view of a situation or issue that they can compare with the specific cases brought in by the participants. The association of experts from the Luxembourg ecosystem proposed by the Chamber of Commerce and academics from the University of Liège is a guarantee of quality and excellence in the training offered.

Thanks to HEC Liège's dual accreditation as a business school (EQUIS and AACSB[1]), all the courses and qualifications offered within the framework of the partnership are labelled. The certificates and diplomas obtained are therefore highly valued on the international job market.

3 Attracting, developing and retaining talent in Luxembourg

The shortage of skilled labour in Luxembourg companies is a major and widespread problem for the economy. One of the ambitions of the partnership between the Chamber of Commerce and HEC Liège is to offer a wide range of training and certification to attract new talent to Luxembourg. It is indeed necessary to increase the attractiveness of Luxembourg by offering high-level training courses, accompanied by internships in companies. The latter will enable participants from abroad to work during their training.

By setting up this partnership, the two institutions are affirming their desire to deploy executive education programmes adapted to the Luxembourg market.

"This reinforcement of the continuing vocational training offer not only makes it possible to meet the needs of "upskilling" and "reskilling" at company level, but also to attract talent from abroad. These two aspects are essential to help fill the "skills gap" that the Luxembourg job market is currently experiencing and which is expected to intensify in the years to come", says Muriel Morbé, Director of Training at the Chamber of Commerce and CEO of the House of Training.
