On May 26, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Brussels, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and the Chamber of Commerce of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, organized the Qatar-Luxembourg Business Forum at the Musée d’Art Moderne – MUDAM.
This location was actually chosen to virtually illustrate the close links between both small States since the MUDAM and Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar are designed by the same architect, Yan Ming Pei. On top, the stone used for the MUDAM is the same that was chosen to build the new Embassy of Qatar in Brussels.
The visit of H.E. Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Trade of the State of Qatar as well as the high-level business delegation he led to Luxembourg were in fact the ideal opportunity to arrange this Business Forum. It was a great occasion to present to the Qatari delegation the various sectors Luxembourg intends to develop in the coming years and to get to know which opportunities lay in the Qatari market.
Diversification is actually the common ground for both nations and the presentations given by the two sides, also intended to identify possible ways of cooperation.
On the Qatari side, a session on public investment for World Cup 2022 and other major projects highlighted the challenges and opportunities for such Qatar-Luxembourg cooperation. A second session on investment funds and investment opportunities was very much targeting the Luxembourg Financial Centre representatives. The third and last session about the challenges in the energy sector intended to showcase business opportunities as well as joint investments and cooperation in the fields of research, development and innovation.
The Forum was followed by a Networking lunch which offered the possibility to discuss in a more detailed way the topics presented during the morning sessions.
