On April 18th, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce had the pleasure to welcome at its premises His Excellency Sultan Al Mansoori, Minister of the Economy of the United Arab Emirates. The Minister was accompanied by a high-ranking delegation of government officials, the Ambassador of Luxembourg to Abu Dhabi, H.E. Elisabeth Cardoso and the Executive Director of the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office in Abu Dhabi, Loïc Bertoli.

Carlo Thelen, Director General of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the Minister and his delegation by highlighting the longstanding friendship between Luxembourg and the UAE. Only last October an important official mission has been organised in the UAE, enabling the signing of the participation agreement in Dubai for Expo2020, the signing of an MoU of collaboration in space between the UAE Space Agency and spaceresources.lu and the establishing of a codeshare partnership for air cargo transport between Cargolux and Emirates SkyCargo.

On the UAE side, Minister Al Mansoori expressed the willingness to diversify the knowledge economy and to enhance innovations by issuing new laws. The aviation hub and tourism will be further developed. There are a number of sectors that indeed both Luxembourg and the UAE are pursuing: construction, aerospace, ICT and logistics.

A lot of other cooperation opportunities exist between the two countries may it be in the sector of startups or innovation centers. Hence, in the next months, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce will organize more activities in the region, also in anticipation of Expo2020, the next universal exhibition under the banner “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, hosting more than 200 countries.
