A powerful participation for the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce at the 1st edition of the Nexus2050

Digitalisation

The inaugural edition of the Nexus2050 has concluded successfully. Organised by The Dots and Maison Moderne at Luxexpo the BOX, the new annual tech event underlined the importance of technology to advance human progress, considering both productivity gains and addressing pressing ethical issues. This year, the event focused on artificial intelligence, sustainability, cybersecurity, financial technology, as well as talent attraction and development. As a strategic partner, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce reinforced its presence at the event this year.

The “Group Chamber of Commerce” stand showcased its entities including the House of Entrepreneurship, the House of Startups, the House of Sustainability, the Luxembourg City Incubator, the House of Training and Key job. The stand presented the services offered to support its members in their entire entrepreneurial lifecycle including incubation, digital transformation, internationalisation, upskilling or reskilling with its panoply of training services, or sustainability with the creation of its new House of Sustainability.

The “avant-garde” inauguration of Nexus2050 welcome several personalities from Luxembourg and Europe. The event was co-hosted by AI Robot Sophia from Hanston Robotics.

During his speech at the inauguration of the Nexus2050, Carlo Thelen, CEO of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce underlined that, “Technology is playing a crucial role in shaping an advanced and sustainable future. It has been instrumental in enhancing Luxembourg’s competitiveness and supporting its long-term economic growth. While we recognise the associated risks, EU regulations are proving a secure framework for the use of technologies such as AI. Striking a balance between regulation and innovation is essential to avoid hindering competitiveness. We need to foster an environment within our EU single market that encourages global leaders to make substantial investments in technology and innovation as well as restore digital sovereignty to the European Union”.

Partners of the Luxembourg Trade & Invest, including the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and Luxinnovation came together to create a common programme for the international delegations at Nexus2050. The 18 delegations that came from all corners of the world explored a rich pre-programme on 25th June that was devised to showcase the best of Luxembourg. The morning included a tour of Belval focused on the innovation ecosystem. In the afternoon, Luxembourg’s dynamic startup ecosystem was presented with the traditional Inside Startup Luxembourg event, organised by Startup Luxembourg and hosted at the House of Startups.

Networking and matchmaking are important facets of trade fairs like Nexus2050. Hence, the programme was enriched with 2 days of matchmaking events with the Go International Business Meetings @ NEXUS2050 to encourage the international companies to explore collaborations with Luxembourg companies. Organised by the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and its Enterprise Europe Network, the 1st edition of Go International Business Meetings @ Nexus2050 helped SMEs and start-ups in the ICT community form new connections and meet potential international partners. Around 450 participants representing 356 companies from 27 countries participated in the business meetings organised at the Nexus2050. 640 business meetings were organised for these companies.

Given the importance of cross-border cooperation for Luxembourg, special events were organised to encourage the participation of the Greater Region during the Nexus2050. The Greater Region networking reception brought together startups, companies, and various stakeholders from the region. This reception was followed by a pitching session “Greater Region Startup Spotlight” organised by the House of Startups through its cross-border incubator network EU-Tribe. Matchmaking meetings between the startups and the companies complemented the pitching session.

In its first year of existence, Nexus2050 has shown that it has the potential to become a key event in the ICT field, and a great showcase of Luxembourg’s expertise in the field of ICT.
