On January 31st, Fernand Ernster, President of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, and Carlo Thelen, General Director of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, participated at the New Year’s Drink and Lean & Green Awards organized by the Cluster for Logistics Luxembourg.
Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, was the guest speaker of the evening and participated along with over 130 guests at the New Year's reception at the HELIX Building of POST Luxembourg. Beyond the New Year’s Drink, the Cluster for Logistics took the opportunity to honor two companies with the Lean & Green Awards. Mario Treinen, Director of POST Courrier and Vice-president of the Cluster for Logistics, welcomed the guests on behalf of POST Luxembourg.
"Luxembourg is facing a landscape of challenges but also opportunities", noted Carlo Thelen, President of the Cluster for Logistics. The logistics and transport sector is also confronted with an increasing number of zero-emission and low-emission solutions to reach the ambitious goals. However, electric and hydrogen alternatives are still expensive and uncommon - the implementation will require more time and effort. Daniel Kohl, Director of the Cluster for Logistics, gave an overview of the current economic perspectives and top trends in supply chain in 2024, while also emphasizing bottlenecks in the logistics landscape in Luxembourg.
During the event, the Cluster for Logistics rewarded two companies with the Lean & Green awards 2023. Lean & Green is a sustainable logistics label to motivate and support companies in reducing their CO2 emissions from transport and logistics activities. Jil Brimaire, Lean & Green Program Manager Luxembourg, moderated the awards ceremony:
The new Lean & Green candidate Streff received the Lean & Green Award for preparing an eligible action plan to reduce their CO2 emissions by at least 20 percent in the coming 5 years. Max Neumann from Streff presented their ambitions and concrete measures and emphasized the importance of subsidies to accelerate the electrification in the sector.
Luxport S.A. is already two steps further. Luxport received the second Lean & Green Star. The company was able to reduce its emissions from logistics activities by more than 30 percent compared to 2015. Christian Schulz from Luxport elaborated on the achieved CO2 reductions and remaining challenges for further CO2 savings.
The event was rounded off with a farewell speech by Malik Zeniti, who led the Cluster for Logistics from 2015 to 2023 and retired at the end of last year.
The Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce is a founding member of the Cluster for Logistics. The Cluster for Logistics aims to facilitate networking between actors in the sector and the new headquarters of POST Luxembourg were a beautiful setting for this year's reception.
