Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Chinese New Year – Year of the Snake

The Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the China-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels, hosted its traditional Chinese New Year Reception today, marking the Year of the Snake.

Mr. Fernand Ernster, President of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, opened the the 18th edition of the traditional celebration. He emphasized the role of economic diplomacy in strengthening Luxembourg’s position as a key European hub for Chinese investors. He highlighted the Chamber’s commitment to fostering deeper business connections between the two economies.

His welcome address was followed by a series of speeches highlighting the strong economic and cultural ties between Luxembourg and China. The distinguished speakers included:

Mr. Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, underlined the significance of China as one of Luxembourg’s most important trading partners. He also spoke about Luxembourg’s openness to innovation and green finance, encouraging further Sino-Luxembourg collaboration in these sectors.

H.E. Mr. Hua Ning, Chinese Ambassador to Luxembourg, praised the long-standing cooperation between China and Luxembourg, stressing the importance of mutual trust and continued dialogue in areas such as clean technology, logistics, innovation and finance. He reaffirmed China’s interest in strengthening its economic presence in Luxembourg.

Ms. Shirley Yung, Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, discussed Hong Kong’s pivotal role as a financial gateway between China and Europe. She highlighted opportunities for Luxembourgish businesses to expand into Asian markets via Hong Kong’s dynamic trade and financial ecosystem.

Ms. Zhujun Xie, President of Chinalux, shared the experience of successful event “Shanghai meets Luxembourg” hosted during the Official Trade Mission last November.

Following the speeches, attendees enjoyed a stunning traditional Chinese dragon dance performed by Ecole Wuxing, a partner of Confucius Institute of the University of Luxembourg; and the following network cocktail and culinary delights, fostering a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture within the Luxembourg community.
