Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), a leading diversified natural resources group headquartered in Luxembourg, has announced a successful start of electricity generation at its two first turbines at the landmark wind power plant in Сhromtau, Kazakhstan. As of today, these wind turbines, at 6.25 MWt each, are the most powerful in the country.

The wind farm project in Chromtau with a total capacity of 150 MW is being implemented using the latest engineering and technological developments. Total investments in this project exceed $US 142 mln. Green energy will be supplied to Donskoy GOK of JSC TNK Kazchrome, part of ERG. The wind farm will annually produce up to 460 mln kWh of green electricity, ensuring a further reduction in the carbon footprint of ERG’s ferrochrome. The project will also prevent emissions of about 440 thousand tons of carbon dioxide and more than 4 thousand tons of pollutants into the atmosphere. Being at the core of ERG’s decarbonization strategy, this is also in line with Kazakhstan's commitments under the Paris Agreement and the long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

The launch of ERG’s first two wind turbines is a significant step on the Group's long path to production of "green" energy, - said Shukhrat Ibragimov, ERG’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors. – We are also inspired to have achieved such a milestone while celebrating the 30th anniversary of our business in the country of ERG’s origins, Kazakhstan. The capacity of each wind turbine is 6.25 MW, which as of now, has no comparable analogues in the country. By further investing in our enterprises, introducing new, major technologies in accordance with ESG principles, we contribute to the sustainable development of the Group and the modernization of the industry of Kazakhstan as a whole. I am grateful to everyone involved for their incredible efforts to implementing this project. We are already considering other initiatives for the development of renewable energy sources.”

ERG has also earlier announced the mutual plans with China’s Huadian and Kazakhstan’s Argestus for cooperation to build a wind power plant near the city of Ekibastuz with an installed capacity of 200 MW. That production facility can be built by the end of 2026.

ERG is open to new partnerships to develop renewable energy sources.
