A Canadian delegation, composed of specialists from the ICT and defense sectors, visited the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce on March 8 in the framework of the Canadian industry mission to NATO. This delegation composed of 30 prominent Canadian companies visited Luxembourg in order to look into possible business cooperations and receive information from the NSPA.
Mr. Jeannot Erpelding, Chambre de Commerce, presented the Luxembourg economy and Mr. François Thill, Ministry of the Economy, presented the initiatives of the Ministry of the Economy in the field of cybersecurity. The companies had the opportunity of presenting their activities during a round table.
The defense sector is a market that is gradually opening up in Europe. A series of directives was issued by the European Commission to ensure that procurement markets in the defense sector are open to the companies from all EU countries. Luxembourg does not have a defense sector as such but has a large variety of companies that trade in dual use products and services.
Especially after the signature of the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), numerous possibilities to engage in partnerships and business deals lie ahead for Luxembourg and Canadian companies.
CETA will tackle a whole range of issues to make business between Luxembourg and Canada easier. It will remove customs duties, end limitations in access to public contracts, open-up services' market, and offer predictable conditions for investors.
After the successful mission to Canada in 2015, this event prooved once more that Luxembourg and Canada are on the right track when it comes to strengthening their economic and commercial relations for the benefit of their respective business communities.
