A successful first digital mission to Wisconsin, USA

The e-Mission to Wisconsin was officially kicked off by the Chairman of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Luc Frieden, and the Governor of Wisconsin, Mr. Tony Evers and many more.

The Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, in close partnership with the Ministry of the Economy, Luxinnovation, the Luxembourg House of Fintech and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), organised a Digital Trade Mission to Wisconsin, USA from March 29-31.

Thanks to the collective efforts of all partners involved, and in view of the current health crisis, a digital programme was developed that offered a wide range of opportunities to meet key decision makers and make contacts with leading business representatives. The entirety of the trade mission was held online.

More than 250 business people  from USA and Luxembourg registered for this e-mission which put an emphasis on innovative new technologies, digital services, R&D, fintech, as well as the startups. The webinars aimed at promoting the economic assets of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and of the State of Wisconsin.

Opening Webinar (29.03.2021)

The e-Mission to Wisconsin was officially kicked off by the Chairman of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Luc Frieden, Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot and the Governor of Wisconsin, Mr. Tony Evers and many more.

The official speeches are followed by a focus on Water Management during which Luxembourg and Wisconsin water visionaries discussed opportunities in their respective ecosystems. Wisconsin is a state with over 15,000 freshwater lakes. When it comes to moving, metering, treating and using water in a sustainable manner, Wisconsin possesses world-leading knowledge based on a long history of innovation. Fintech Innovation (30.03.2021)

On day two of the e-Mission to Wisconsin, the Luxembourg House of Fintech led discussions between 21 Luxembourg and Wisconsin Fintech leaders. Knowledge and insights on the future of fintech, adressing issues such as the future of banking, insurance and blockchain.  The speakers described how both ecosystems are developing solutions to better face current and future  challenges.

Start-ups Meet Up  (31.03.2021)

On the final day of the e-Mission: Luxembourg and Wisconsin based startups discussed challenges and solutions to growth and identify potential partners. Topics ranged from the impact of the COVID-19 crisis to How to expand in the US/Europe.

Cindy Tereba, Director International Affairs of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, and her homologue at the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Katy Sinnott wrapped up this fully digital trade mission to Wisconsin with a promise to companies on both sides of the pond to meet as soon as the sanitary situation allows.

31.03.2021: e-Mission to Wisconsin - Start-ups Meet Up from Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce on Vimeo.

This digital mission has already led to some concrete outcomes:

  • Initial talks started between uni.lu & Marquette university to collaborate on the topic of Blockchain and AI;
  • Initial contact between Eolis media producing passive sensors, and the Water Council of Wisconsin to potentially secure water distribution networks.

The pandemic clearly did not spell the end of internationalization, quite the contrary. Digital trade missions like this one are more than ever a key factor in the health of Luxembourg businesses in the context of uncertainty and instability.
