Maritime Cluster Luxembourg
According to a first evaluation on the spot, Luxembourg's national booth in the Posidonia shipping trade fair in Athens last week was a great success. Six exhibiting companies from the Grand-Duchy reported interesting contacts with prospective customers, respectively encouraging meetings with existing customers which, according to the Luxembourg Maritime Cluster, are expected to lead to further growth of the Luxembourg maritime business in the coming months
The Luxembourg stand, which was co-organized by the Ministry for Economy, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, and the Luxembourg Maritime Cluster, was well visited as the participating companies showcased interesting products and technologies:
ArcelorMittal Europe - Flats Products presented its shipbuilding complete steel offer : from heavy plates used for structural parts to premium pre-painted steel dedicated for interior applications of a vessel.
Apateq promoted MarinePaq, a compact, cost-efficient system for installation in harbors and on board large ships to treat contaminated water resulting from the washing of exhaust gases.
SES Astra, is already a well-known provider of maritime telecommunications solutions and confirmed its intent to join the Luxembourg Maritime Cluster
Jan De Nul group showcased its expertise in dredging, cable-laying and renewable energies.
Insurance broker Integra Consultancy Services presented customized worldwide social security coverage solutions for seafarers and expats (WYCC).
EuroFlag Services expert in ship registration and management contributed to demonstrate that Luxembourg is a all-around service provider to the shipping industry.
The show also coincided with the confirmation that the Luxembourg flag not only remains on the white-list of the Paris MoU, but also improves its ranking thereon, which illustrates the register's high level of service as well as the quality and dedication of both the Luxembourg Maritime Administration and the Luxembourg shipping community, illustrating once again the Luxembourg maritime sector's attractiveness in the context of economic diversification as well as nation branding. In this context it may be interesting to note that currently 60 companies are members of the Luxembourg Maritime Cluster.
Posidonia, one of the world's leading maritime events, was a unique opportunity to promote the expertise of Luxembourg companies in the maritime sector. This year's edition attracted 1800 exhibitors from 90 countries as well as over 20 000 visitors. Among the visitors on the Luxembourg booth were Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the President of the Union of Greek Shipowners Mr. Theodore E. Veniamis, the Chairwoman of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), Mrs. Fofi Gennimata, the Honorary Consul of Luxembourg, Mrs. Artemis Papatheodorou and the Luxembourg Ambassador to Greece Mr. Christian Biever with whom the organizers and exhibitors agreed already on follow-up actions in Greece before the end of the year.
