Yuri LUX GmbH SARL, called Yuri, founded in 2019 in Germany, set up in Luxembourg in 2020. The company is a pioneer in space biotechnology, specializing in exploiting microgravity environments to advance life sciences and develop innovative biotechnology products that benefit human health, both on Earth and in space. Yuri offers complete solutions for carrying out life science experiments in microgravity. These include ScienceShells (compact, automated micro-laboratories designed for experiments in microgravity conditions) and multiple platforms, the micro-laboratories are compatible with the ISS (International Space Station), orbital or suborbital spacecraft, parabolic flights and drop towers.
One of Yuri's flagship products is the ScienceTaxi, a modular space incubator capable of holding up to 36 experimental units, enabling schientific researchers to compare results obtained in different gravitational environments. Yuri has signed a contract with Sierra Space to transport the ScienceTaxi aboard Dream Chaser rockets.
Another partnership with Vast in August 2024, a company specializing in space habitation technologies, will see the ScienceTaxi used on Haven-1, the first commercial space station dedicated to microgravity research and production.
Yuri offers an end-to-end service to take life science experiments, e.g. cell culturing or protein crystallization to microgravity - mostly to the ISS, but also on suborbital rockets or parabolic flights. Its modular and reusable hardware system makes it possible to offer ISS experiments in less than 6 months and less than 100.000 euros instead of taking several years of preparation and costing 1 million euros.

Your greatest success?
To have managed a turnaround, re-shape and motivate our team.
A major failure?
Over this goal, some plants have dried – as you cannot compete in all races.
Future projects?
To play a key role in shaping R&D for pharma, food and cosmetics in the post-ISS-era in space.
What do you think differentiates you from your business competitors?
Yuri does more than presenting visions, we provide solid engineering based on the shoulders of successful missions.
Your vision of entrepreneurship?
Clever optimization of resources even from an underdog position – think of Cliff Young’s run to success in the Australian desert 1983.
Some advice to give to a budding entrepreneur?
Listen carefully, win attention by your strengths, perform and enjoy.
What difficulties do you currently face? How do you overcome them?
A gap between suppliers for space and biotech and the demands of pharma, food and cosmetics industry. We need to mitigate the gap by listening and making clever, irresistible proposals.
